This December we’re noticing there is less of the ‘it can wait till January’ attitude and more of the ‘what else can we achieve this side of the year’ push. Where last year everyone was just ready for a holiday, this year December is full speed ahead!
With that in mind, it’s important to ensure you’re prioristing what needs to be done and what can wait. End of year burnout is a real thing, running into the holidays feeling stressed isn’t good for anyone. So what can you do to make proactive steps in prioritising your work for the remainder of the year?
We suggest using the priority matrix, otherwise known as the Eisenhower model. The priority matrix is a tool for rating your tasks based on urgency. It helps you know the critical activities and those tasks that you should bypass. There are four quadrants which help in comparing choices of what to do first and last.
For now, focus on the green – what are the things you must do before the end of the year? Are there things you can delegate to someone so you can ensure they are completed? What can you schedule to pick up in the new year when you have more headspace? And what can you say see ya later to/ELIMINATE?
Effective planning this side of the year will set you up for success for 2024 – both in the work you do and how you feel about doing it.
